Happy October 1st, everyone! If you ask me, this is quite possibly the best month of the whole year. 2020 has been hard on all of us, and I think we all just need something to look forward to. For me, that something is Halloween. Naturally, Halloween won’t look the same as it used to, but that doesn’t mean it’s cancelled! Oh no, I plan to celebrate Halloween this year (and every year, let’s be real) as it’s own season. To kick things off, welcome to my first ever Blogtober post!
What is Blogtober?
I was too excited to actually wait until October 1st, so here’s a post I wrote earlier this week to kick off the spooky season! I know you’re busy, though, so just in case, here’s a run down of the what and why behind Blogtober!
Blogtober is a challenge that encourages bloggers to publish a post every single day during the month of October. Content can be fall themed, Halloween specific (Blogoween), normal content, or some combination of the three. The important part is to publish new posts every single day.
If you’re a Youtube person, Vlogtober is also a thing. Same premise, but with Youtube content instead of blog posts.
There are no specific rules to follow, no generally accepted schedule, no prizes or trophies for completion… but I think I deserve one if I get through this!
Yeah, I know. I can’t even keep up with my weekly posting schedule. What am I thinking?
Well, I’m thinking I freakin’ love Halloween. Cellulitis stole it (and nearly took Mr. P&P) from me last year, and I refuse to let COVID do the same. Halloween might look different for us this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still decorate, celebrate, and enjoy the spooky season.
Why Participate in Blogtober?
Bloggers have so many different reasons why they take on seasonal blog challenges like Blogtober (Blogoween, Blogsgiving , Blogmas… Blogentine’s Day?).
Some people just like the challenge of pushing themselves creatively.
Others seek to fill their blog with new content.
For many bloggers, the goal is to provide lots of valuable content to readers, build connections to their readership and other bloggers, give their SEO a leg up before the big holiday push, and just generally get their blog’s name out there into the world.
Blog challenges can be a great way to fill your blog with content and increase your following. As a bonus, you’ll have plenty of seasonal content ready to push next year!
What to Expect from Problems and Projects During Blogtober
Initially, I wanted to do something like Blogoween, where every day’s content was Halloween or spooky themed. Honestly, I just don’t think I can keep up with that type of schedule. I’m incapable of writing 500 word posts, so I can’t go doubling up on blog content.
Instead, what you’ll see from me this month will be a combination of my normal content, fall themed posts, and (lots of!) Halloween content. I’ll still post my regular budget report, and several of my posts will have a budget friendly or problem solving twist (even though, full disclosure, I sorta blew my budget this month…)

Super exciting! I am doing Blogtober this year as well – the same way that you are, with a mixture of fall, Halloween and normal content over the course of the month. Its definitely going to be a challenge, but I think it’s just the challenge that I need to boost traffic and get everything lined up for the holiday season! Plus, it’s my favourite time of year, so I couldn’t resist… We live for Halloween 365 days/year in our house!!

How fun! I haven’t heard of this challenge before, but it seems like a great way to push yourself and produce a ton of great content. I don’t know if I’d be able to produce fast enough to keep up, but it seems like you’ve put a lot of prep and thought into this. Looking forward to seeing some of this cool stuff the next few weeks!

I love that you have everything planned out for the month. October is dyslexia awareness month and while I have content to bombard my readers with linking them to dyslexia information I realize I probably should do a little more indepth posts about what sites I’m sending them to. So I guess my Blogtober will be Dyslexia themed Blogtober!
