Happy Hallotober – Tag, You’re It!

You are currently viewing Happy Hallotober – Tag, You’re It!

I’m such a bad blogger! Y’all, I’m drowning in backlogged Blogtober posts! I got triple Hallotober tagged like a hundred years ago, and I’m just now getting around to accepting the challenge!

Why am I surprised? October through December is one of the craziest times of the school year, and this year, let’s just multiply that by about a thousand. My stress levels have never been higher, and the next person who says the words “self care” to me earns the honor of getting used as my self care stress ball…

Anyway, let’s rock this little Hallotober tag challenge because Blogtober is all about spooky collaboration!

No clue what I’m talking about? Head on back to Blogtober Day 1 or this pre-Blogtober post I wrote, and get caught up.

What is Hallotober?

Simply put, Hallotober is a tag challenge or game. The basic idea is that you tag people, and then they create a blog post answering a series of Halloween or spooky themed questions. Each person who gets tagged chooses more people, and the cycle continues on until we are all consumed in learning about each other’s dark side!

If I’m not mistaken, (and please correct me if I am, so I can give due credit) the tag was started by Jordanne from The Life of a Glasgow Girl

Basically, it’s a fun way for us all to connect with each other and revel in the joys and wonders of the best season of the year. Yes, Halloween is a season. And a lifestyle.

Anyway, here’s how you play:

The Rules:

• Thank the person who tagged you and link to their post
• Put the rules at the beginning
• You can use the tag image somewhere in the post
• Answer the 13 questions
• Tag 13 people to do the tag
• Delete Question 13, add a new number one question of your own

So, let’s start by taking a moment to thank Baby Boomer Super Saver, Love and Literature, and Tidbits of Care for tagging my to play Hallotober tag with them! Hopefully, they forgive me for falling off the face of the planet for two weeks.

The Questions

1. What is your favorite thing about October?

More like what isn’t my favorite thing about October? I actually wrote a whole post about it earlier this month! Honestly, October just has this ambiance about it, something in the air that makes it feel special and magical. Also, I’m a total closet goth, so in October, I live my best life.

2. Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

Absolutely. Halloween in my household is its own lifestyle that explodes to new levels every year at equinox and lasts until it’s time to put up Christmas decor (after Thanksgiving, thank you very much). This year, I’m going all out even though Halloween won’t look the same. I basically live in the Addams house right now.

3. What’s your favorite horror movie?

That’s such a hard question! I love horror movies, and there are A LOT to choose from. Here’s a list of my favorite scary horror movies, and here’s a list of some of my family safe favorites. While I can’t commit to one specific movie, I’ll give you a favorite horror genre. Zombies. All things zombie. Funny, scary, hokey, goofy, visceral… I don’t care what kind!

4. Would you rather a cozy night in watching horror movies or a big night out in a costume?

I’m a total homebody, so probably the horror movies. Although, I do enjoy dressing up and galavanting around town. It’s just been a long time since I actually did it.

5. Which has been your most favorite costume to date?

I think my absolute favorite was probably a costume from my senior year in high school. An Alice in Wonderland outfit, but with a creepy twist. I covered it in splatters and handprints of blood. Then I mismatched everything to make it feel super weird. To really bring the look to life, I got to act like a haunted house poster child. So much fun!

6. Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

Definitely pin the hat on the witch. Bobbing for apples just doesn’t sit well with me. Slamming your face into a bucket of water that other people’s open mouths have floated around in while trying not to drown might just be the scariest thing about Halloween…

7. How do you celebrate Halloween?

As a season. We decorate the whole house, watch scary movies, bake spooky treats, make creepy crafts, and just generally enjoy the whole autumn. Oh yeah, and the spooky life definitely makes a seasonal comeback in December, too.

8. What’s your least favorite horror movie?

I don’t really like the Rob Zombie type slasher movies. Not because I don’t like slashers. Those types of movies just don’t really engage me.

9. Do you have a favorite trick-or-treating memory?

I don’t know if I have a favorite, but we really enjoyed our firs Halloween with Baby Girl! She has always loved going for walks outside at night, and she spent the night totally fascinated by all the decorations, lights, and costumes. I think her love of pretzels started there too. She couldn’t gnaw on much else at 6 months old. (No, we didn’t let her eat pretzels unattended or in large quantities!) I’m a little bit broken hearted that she didn’t get to participate last year, (because the rat toilet house literally tried to kill us) and this year isn’t looking much better.

10. What’s your favorite thing about Halloween?

All the things! Halloween time is my favorite time of year! I love everything about the spooky season.

11. Scary costume or silly costume?

I prefer a scary costume! Although, I’ve had to tone it down quite a bit since I had a little one. We still keep it scary, but nothing like my previous preference!

12. What’s your favorite Halloween candy?

Smarties! They’re always a pretty common option as Halloween candy goes, and they’re so much fun to eat. I have a thing for textures.

12. What’s the best pumpkin carving you’ve ever done or seen?

I’ve seen some pretty spectacular carvings in my time. We keep it pretty simple, but I think my favorite home carving was my vomiting pumpkin where we had a sickly face carved in and pumpkin seeds/guts falling out of it’s mouth.

You've Been Tagged!

I’m so glad I finally got to sit down and work on this post! I’ve learned so much about other bloggers out there. Hopefully, you got to learn a little bit more about me, too!

I feel like this late in the month, everyone and their mother has already been tagged,  and I’m struggling to find people to freshly tag! Even so, I’m calling out to a handful of my fellow Blogtober patrons that (I think) haven’t been tagged yet. Happy Hallotober, spooky cyber-friends!
